Can Photo Rejuvenation help with Age Spots?

Before we discuss what causes age spots it’s probably better if we understand what they are.  Age spots are flat, gray, brown or black spots that can vary in size and can be found on the face, the hands, the shoulders and the arms.  Age spots are generally harmless and they typically do not need any type of treatment – cosmetically they may look like a growth but if you avoid sun and use a good sun screen you have less chance of developing them.

Causes

It is widely accepted that age spots are caused by the sun. However, there is a process that your skin goes through – basically the UV light that is produced by the sun stimulates melanin production in your body. When melanin is produced in higher concentrations that normal in specific areas of the skin it sticks together and forms an age spot – though this typically takes many years of exposure.  Unfortunately, age spots form very slowly – even using tanning lamps and tanning beds can cause age spots.  Some people may be genetically disposed to developing age spots and for some folks just their normal aging process can stimulate melanin production in their bodies.

Treatments

While age spots are generally not bad enough to warrant any special treatment, women especially may be embarrassed by the discolorations that appear on their arms, hands and especially on their face.  There are some treatments that are used to diminish age spots including:

Freezing – liquid nitrogen is placed on the age spot and this can help destroy the pigment.  This procedure unfortunately may result in permanent scars or even worse discoloration;
Dermabrasion – this invasive procedure basically involves ‘sanding’ down the surface skin with a brush. This procedure strips the top layer of skin – unfortunately this can leave the skin re and cause a scab to form where the age spots are;
Chemical Peel – this procedure can help fade the age spot over time – unfortunately this procedure often requires several costly treatments.
Medications – there are some medications that can help lighten age spots, but they typically require you take them daily over a period of several months.

The most effective and least damaging treatment for age spots is laser therapy. This destroys the melanin that created the original dark spot and does so without any chemicals, invasive procedures or medications.  Laser light treatments can be done easily in a doctors office though they can be expensive.

You now have the option of purchasing a home unit that allows you to treat age spots in the privacy of your own home. These easy to use systems are portable and when used following manufacturers instructions provide a safe, convenient, easy to use system that can help fade age spots.

No more worrying about the high cost of treatments in a doctor’s office, no worrying about the risks and side affects of chemicals and medications that you’re not sure how you’ll react to. These simple to use systems provide you all of the benefits of light therapy that you’d get from your dermatologist at a fraction of the cost.

The Risk of Botox.

What is Botox?

Botox is a toxin that is produced by the bacteria that causes botulism.  This toxin affects the nerves and if injected into a muscle it causes the muscle to lose activity.
Uses for Botox
Botox is used to help treat spasms that occur in neck muscles, treating of lazy eye and may also be used to treat uncontrolled blinking as well as severe underarm sweating and other purposes.  One of the most common uses however is for temporary reduction in facial wrinkles.
Why consider Botox?

As we age we start to consider options to help diminish the lines and wrinkles that appear in our face and on our neck.  It’s important if you are one of the thousands of people who are trying to decide if Botox treatments are right for you that you understand the risks that are associated with Botox injections.

Like anything else, Botox is not without risk and if you’re considering it as a potential treatment for wrinkles, you should understand the risks, the side affects and all of the possible complications that are inherent to Botox injections.

What are the Botox Risks and Possible Complications?

Even if you know someone who has had successful Botox injections and you’ve decided that because they’ve had a successful treatment for facial cosmetics that you will too doesn’t mean that your treatments will be as successful.

There have been cases where Botox injections are placed too close to the eyelid and this can cause the eyelid to droop (although this can be temporary). It could take days, weeks or even months before this condition corrects itself, giving a very unusual appearance to your eyes and possibly causing eye problems as well.

There are also those people to develop allergic reactions to Botox injections. While this is a relatively rare complication, it’s certainly a consideration.  In fact, Botox injections are usually not recommended for women who are pregnant and may not even be recommended while nursing because there is no way to determine at this time if there is a risk to your baby.

Alternative Facial Treatments

If you’re concerned about the risks of side affects or if you feel that Botox injections are more invasive procedures than you’re willing to undergo but you still want to find a way to fight fine lines and wrinkles on your face, you may want to consider an at home photo light machine that will help provide you with a cost effective, non-evasive procedure that can help reduce not just fine lines but the discoloration of the skin that often comes with aging.
How they work

Photo light machines in your home are specifically designed to stimulate your bodies supply of collagen. It’s long been recognized that one of the major causes of our skin developing fine lines and wrinkles is because we do not produce as much collagen as we age.  Using a light system that not only stimulates collagen production but also can help minimize discolorations on our skin by altering the melanin in our skin means that this cost effective, non invasive treatment doesn’t carry all of the side affects of dangerous drugs like Botox.
